3 Reasons To Vote for Mitchell

With the seemingly endless media debates over, the public can finally take stock.  Just what has the media circus all been about? It seems to me that the position of President of Ireland has been reduced to nothing more that a personality contest and given the crises we are in, we need a lot more than a 'personality' as president. We need real substance.  Forget about who wrote letters or fund raised or sat on the boards of quangos and look at the candidates record of public service.  That's what really matters and that's why I genuinely believe Gay Mitchell is the right choice for president.

1. This is no time for our country to take risks with its leaders. More than ever before, we need a President who is a safe pair of hands, a President who is accustomed to meeting heads of state and people with serious influence - and dealing with them on their own level. We need a President who can deal with international leaders on a peer basis. Gay's experience has been formed from 26 years as a TD and 7 as an MEP.  That is serious, heavyweight political experience.  He has years of building international contacts and relationships, and a knowledge base, built up through decades of having to make difficult decisions.

2. We need stability, and we someone who can have a strong, constructive relationship with the Government of the day. We also need a President with integrity, with a deep understanding of the constitutional role - and who will maintain independence and serve the Irish people. He understands tough time too having grown up during hard times, and he knows we can come through this

3. Jobs jobs jobs. We have to get away from the idea  that Ireland is not open for business, especially in light of recent job losses. We also need to get away from the idea that the President cannot be a driver in the creation and attraction of jobs. The President can play a major role, with the Government, with the IDA and with international trade delegations. The message of a President who can work in harmony with the Government, and who has the international contacts to help the country is a strong one to send internationally.

I'll be voting for Gay Mitchell and I hope you will too.
